One of the joys of spending your holidays in the UK is rediscovering all that our countryside and coastlines have to offer. But there’s more than scenery and summertime fun. There’s the rich pageant of history and tradition - especially at Christmas.
Suffolk is a magical time during the festive season; we’ve made a list of events planned for December. Here are some of our favourites that are not to be missed while you are in the area.

1. Christmas - A Winter’s Night at Gunby Hall
One of many National Trusts sites, Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens hosting a festive event throughout December; with this year's exciting theme of 'Christmas around the World'.
Head to Gunby Hall from 30th november to 23rd December for a magical journey through the house on a winter’s night and enjoy a seasonal treat in the tea-room.
2. Christmas on the Riverbank at Doddington Hall
Experience the enchanting ‘A Christmas Chorus’ at Doddington Hall, where Christmas classics and seasonal tunes come to life through spectacular scenes spread across three floors of the historic Elizabethan Hall.
Immerse yourself in the festive atmosphere of this four-century-old family home, reflecting on how Christmas has evolved over the years. The stunning displays are created by Doddington staff, volunteers, local artists, and Lincoln College students, offering a unique and nostalgic celebration of the season.
Christmas at Doddington runs from 9th November to the 23rd December and booking is essential.
3. Christmas at Belton House
This festive season, add some sparkle to your visit with a stroll through Belton Mansion from 29th November to the 5th January, beautifully decorated with twinkling lights and stunning trees.
Discover the redesigned Christmas displays for 2024, featuring magical woodland themes inspired by Belton’s parkland.
The Marble Hall is transformed into an ethereal space, and the Library showcases delicate wildlife origami, creating a captivating, fairy-tale atmosphere throughout the mansion.
4. The Real Christmas Experience at Rand Farm Park
Enjoy a magical, immersive experience at the Real Christmas Experience at Rand Farm Park. Fun for all the family, you can journey through to meet Santa’s elves, Mrs Claus, real reindeer and Santa himself.
Or head to one of the adult-only experience nights for live music, street food and no kids!
The Real Christmas Experience runs from 29th November until 24th December, so get your tickets booked!
6. Belvoir Castle Christmas Village
Head to Belvoir Castle between 23rd November and 1st January and experience “the ultimate destination for a magical Christmas experience”.
Celebrate the festive season at The Belvoir Retail Village with twinkling lights, seasonal charm, and plenty of family fun. Shop for hand-crafted gifts, enjoy Breakfast with Father Christmas, or visit Santa’s Grotto. Kids can explore the magical Christmas Trail in the Adventure Playground, and finish the day with a Festive Afternoon Tea at the Belvoir Bistro, open daily.
