Go north, go east, Yorkshire is best.
Yorkshire, the largest county by area in the UK, is big on holiday home appeal. The great outdoors, stunning beaches, art and culture, food and drink - the 4 big things you look for in a holiday home location are all there to take advantage of.
1. The outdoor life in Yorkshire is some of the best in the uk
Getting out and enjoying the great outdoors - and having the opportunity to do it - is pretty much at the top of everyone’s list of holiday home desirables. And Yorkshire delivers beautiful scenery - big time.
The landscape around Redcar, and out towards Cleveland, is spectacular. There are lots of ways of making the most of it too - cycling for example. You can download cycling and walking maps and enjoy the area at a leisurely pace.
There are plenty of serious walks or simple strolls in the east of the county too. Over at South Shore the scenery and countryside are perfectly picturesque. Wildlife and woodlands are in plentiful supply in this spectacular swathe of the country. Head to RSPB Bempton Cliffs just a few miles from Bridlington to spot puffins, gannets and lots of other seabirds.
2. YOU’LL FIND The best of the beaches IN YORKSHIRE
It’s possible that there is a happier place than a British beach, but no proof exists. Bridlington most certainly does exist though and it’s absolutely a must visit. There are miles of beautiful beaches around here.
Just as there are around Redcar and Cleveland. What’s lovely about Yorkshire’s coastline is that you can find nature in all its glory on quiet secluded beaches as well as all the fun of the prom and seaside fun on the beaches of resorts. Resorts like Redcar, Marske-by-the-Sea and Saltburn with its stunning VIctorian cliff tramway.
But there’s more than the Moors. This is a a great part of the world for surfing, wind surfing, boogie boarding and…well, you get the idea. Water sports are a big deal here too.
3. Find Food and Drink Aplenty in Yorkshire
Food and drink have long since stopped being a holiday shopping list item for basic essentials. We’ve never been more enthusiastic about food and drink, especially when we’re on holiday. And, we’ve never been more aware of of the pleasures to be had from local produce. Local ingredients and specialties are fun, and a way of exploring and learning more about the location of your holiday home.
A really good - and not to be missed - example of a local specialty, and one that delivers holiday fun too, is the legend that is the Lemon Top Ice Cream. If your holiday home is, for example, at Tingdene Redcar Beach, you’re within striking distance of the Lemon Top.
All across north and east Yorkshire you’ll find an ever increasing choice of pubs, restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, local cuisine, cosmopolitan eateries, delis and breweries. From national chains to tiny independents, from long established hostelries to trendy pop ups, there have never been more reasons for you to go cycling and walking the region’s countryside and beaches. For obvious reasons….
4. Art and Culture is thriving in Yorkshire
If one name comes to mind under this heading it has to be David Hockney. Heralded as England’s answer to Andy Warhol in the 90s, David Hockney moved to Yorkshire from California in later life, and in a relatively recent phase of his long and illustrious career, he’s been inspired to create paintings of the Yorkshire Wolds. The pictures have become world famous.
Hockney though is not alone when it comes to art and culture in Yorkshire. In the north, around Redcar Beach, there are numerous theatres and galleries.
Saltburn Studios is definitely worth a look, as is the Heritage Gallery at Cargo Fleet in Middlesborough which is great for art but also an insight into Teeside’s industrial heritage.
https://www.yorkshire.com/ is a great resource for events and places to visit. It has links to literary Yorkshire as well. Which of course includes Whitby and links to the literary legend, Dracula.
There’s 2 other reasons why Yorkshire is the idea holiday home location
Redcar Beach is the only caravan park with access to the beach in Redcar, giving you the best of the seaside in Teesside. Neighbour to Whitby, Staithes and Redcar the park is beautifully sited. It’s super convenient for Cleveland Golf Club and the North Yorkshire Moors, with the beach and the outdoor life on your doorstep. How good is that?
And on the east Yorkshire coast there’s Tingdene at South Shore. Bridlington is the nearest resort, and the area is packed with things to do. With a holiday home in 18 acres of beautiful parkland you might want to spend some of your time just chilling of course. But then you are near to a course if you want golf.
