Owning your own holiday home in wine country can mean owning your own holiday home in the UK.
You might want to have a double take on that headline. Read it again. Yes, it did say what you thought it said.
We’re well beyond the time when the words ‘English’ and ‘wine’ were considered incompatible. You’ll remember the arguments over it. The (let’s be honest) snobbery over it. Nowadays, English wine is thriving and sophisticated. And what’s, more it’s being produced by a whole range of vineyards across the country.
And those vineyards are very often to be found in exactly the areas ideally suited for your own UK holiday home. Now there’s an interesting combination…
Caldecott Hall Country Park - a great location in Norfolk
And why is Norfolk important? Well it’s important for all sorts of reasons actually, not least of which are its amazing beaches and perfect holiday locations. But in this context, it’s one of those places where you’ll find the perfect location for a UK holiday home like Caldecott Hall Country Park and English wine.
Check out what the legendary Norfolk company Bullards has been doing. A nineteenth century company brought back to life and now namely making gin, among other things, Bullards produce an amazing sparkling Rosé. Made from grapes picked in a Norfolk vineyard, it’s all fine bubbles and fruity notes.
Another name in Norfolk is the Flint Vineyard at Earsham, where they produce really high quality wine. Established in 2016, they have ten acres of lovingly cared for vines and a state of the art winery. A great place to visit in the Waveney Valley, just 14 miles from Waveney River Centre.
Waveney River Centre - where your holiday home is half an hour from a vineyard
Speaking of the Waveney Valley, it’s not much more than thirty minutes drive (designate a driver!) from the superb holiday home location of Waveney River Centre to the Chet Valley Vineyard in South Norfolk. Award winning wines come out of this family owned business. There are over ten hectares of land here and it’s put to work to produce carefully supervised grape growth. The right soil and the right skills have led to these artisan wines winning prizes year after year.
A Suffolk holiday home - great for some super sipping
Broadlands Park & Marina and North Denes Caravan Park are both brilliant locations for your own UK seaside holiday home. What else do they have in common? They are both in Suffolk - and Suffolk is a serious player in the wine stakes.
For a start there’s Giffords Hall, a family run vineyard in the village of Hartest. Still, sparkling, red, white and rosé - they make them all.
There’s Shawsgate Vineyard too. Not far from Suffolk’s lovely coast, just outside the town of Framlingham, this is one of the oldest commercial vineyards in East Anglia.
Mablethorpe Park - there’s a lot to like about Lincolnshire
Mablethorpe Park is an ideal holiday home location. Miles of beautiful beach and easy access to all sorts of attractions, including the legendary and classic seaside resort of Skegness, mean you get the best of all worlds.
And there’s quite a lot going on in the wine world here too. Somerby Vineyards has sixteen acres of vines nestling in the Lincolnshire Wolds and are producers of award winning white, red and sparkling wines.
And also in the Wolds is Ovens Farm in Harrington. Their winery is based in renovated farm buildings and all of their wine is produced on site. They pride themselves on the variety of their output, which is enhanced by the unique soil conditions.
Redcar Beach - handy for glass of red
North Yorkshire is such a great UK holiday home location because it offers seaside and countryside. It offers towns when you want them and tranquility when you don’t. Redcar Beach is beautifully placed to do it all.
Not far away, in the village of Nun Monkton, you’ll find Yorkshire Heart Vineyard. Ask throughout Yorkshire and you’ll find that people love the wines produced by this dedicated team.
In the Vale of York there’s Dunesforde, a boutique vineyard aiming to make distinctive wines. They take their inspiration from Tuscany and now grow four grape varieties. Established in 2016, they are already award winners.
South Shore - start here to explore the East Riding
And explore you should. Because aside from the scenery and stunning landscape, this part of the country offers some exciting wines to discover too.
Laurel Vines Vineyard is a real family affair. Everyone plays a part from picking to production and they really do handle the whole process here on site - including the bottling.
Little Wold Vineyard is very much an East Riding business operating in South Cave. This vineyard has over 12000 vines of five varieties of grape. Impressive!
Something to enjoy - wherever you have your UK holiday home
All over the country there are vineyards and wineries making first class wines, and there’s no better example than Lowick Vineyard in Northamptonshire.
But there’s more! If you’re a Tingdene holiday home owner, you have access to a wide range of discounts from establishments all over the UK. That includes a 30% discount when you buy wine from Lowick Vineyard. You’ll love the award winning selection of handcrafted wines from this vineyard, built on a real passion for getting it just right.
A glass of wine at the end of the day can be a real treat, though of course we must stress the need to drink responsibly. And don’t forget, if you go visiting a vineyard, a designated driver is a must because there are usually opportunities for tastings.
But then, that’s another thing about having your own UK holiday home. Come the end of the day, you can raise a glass and relax because you don’t have to go out. Because you’re there in your own holiday home. Cheers to that!
