What is Pancake Day?
Pancakes have come to represent Shrove Tuesday, traditionally the day where families would use up all the fattening foods before Lent, which is a Christian period of reflection and fasting for many people. Therefore, the day is known as Pancake Day for a lot of English speaking countries.
In other countries like France, the USA and Brazil, it is known as Carnival or ‘Mardis Gras’ (which translates to ‘Fat Tuesday’) and celebrated with music, dancing, colourful clothing, floats and a variety of regional traditions.
